Everything was packed up, her guitar was securely in its case, and Fish's cage was even covered and ready for transport. Now all Zero had to do was ferry it all down to Dave and point the big teal van toward Flange City.

Except for how she really didn't want to.

Isabel stopped by before heading out with Peter and knocked on the door.

"Come in," Zero called from halfway under one of the beds, where she was checking to make sure she hadn't missed anything.

"Hey," she said, opening the door and sticking her head in. "I just wanted to say good luck and all that."

"Thanks," Zero said. "You take care, you hear?"

"I'll try," Isabel smiled. "And I'll try to keep an eye on your other half. No more kidnappings."

"Thank you. He needs it. And no more vanishing off to alien planets an' not telling," Zero instructed Isabel. "Y'hear?"

"I do," Isabel nodded, not making any promises.

"It's not going to be the same without you. Although I have to admit, I'm a tiny bit relieved that the next time this place goes wacky, there's less chance of me winding up on video."

Zero sighed fondly. "Ah, yes, the wacky. At least I have the memories. And video evidence."

Isabel laughed, "Just don't post it on Youtube? Please?"

Anders was heading down the hallway on his way to his own room (for once), in search of his stash of extra laundry detergent, because he was perverse like that and did laundry on Friday nights sometimes. And well, it was hard to miss the packed-up room.

"Aw, frak . . . you're really going too, now, aren't you?" he asked, standing in the doorway and looking extra sad-puppy-ish.

"Yeah," Zero said. "Have to. Graduated an' all; can't stay around forever."

He cranked the sad-puppy look up to 11 a notch. "And I guess it wouldn't sit too well with people if we tried to kidnap you, would it?"

"My family would just have to come get me back an' beat you up," Zero had to tell him. "And no, you couldn't take them."

"Well, there went brilliant plan number one," Anders told the ceiling, snapping his fingers. "I knew I should've come up with a backup."

Zero shook her head at him. "Daisy, Daisy, Daisy, if you haven't learned by now you should always have a backup plan, however can I feel safe leaving you here? You'll just get yourself gremlin-bit again."

"Actually, I used the backup plan first. That was the sad-puppy look. Besides," Anders chided, "would you really turn down a shot at video footage of my gremlin-bit antics?"

"Yes," Zero said promptly. "Too much editing to make it safe for, you know, human eyes."

Peter knocked on the door frame. "Hey."

"Hey," Zero said softly.

"You know, it won't be so bad," Peter said. "There will be phone calls and e-mails and visits. And you'll be doing what you really want to do."

"I know," Zero said. "It's just that I'll be doing it all the way over there."

"That part does suck," Peter said, stepping forward to hug Zero. "I could just hide you in my room, you know."

"I think that would only work if I was, say, a kitten," Zero said. Then she waited a moment. And did not turn into a kitten. "It was worth a shot."

"I'm not completely disappointed by that. Kissing a kitten would make me a weirdo," Peter said.

"But you can kiss me, right?" Zero asked hopefully.
