Parking Lot by Causeway, Saturday Afternoon

Even though it was just a short trip to Arlington, Zero had stocked Dave with snacks, a cooler full of drinks, and entertainment--such as 'Teach Yourself Guitar' and 'Drumming Made Easy.' Now all she needed was the band.

Dear squall, she hoped the band showed up.

"I know," Anders replied, just as sadly. "And then you guys are gonna graduate and leave, and who's gonna call me Daisy after you're gone, huh?"

"There's always e-mail!" Zero said brightly. "Oh, an' you could put Daisy on your nametag when the new kids get here an' they'll never know any better."

"That's not the same," Anders protested. "Nobody's allowed to call me that unless they've been stuck in a Special Collections shelf with me or seen me naked and gremlin-bitten. It's special, dammit."

"Have you considered the possibility that those things will happen with the newbies?" Zero asked him.

Anders frowned, because well, he hadn't.

"But it's not the same," he maintained stubbornly.

"No," Zero agreed. "It really isn't." She hugged him again. "I'll miss you, Daisy!"

"I'll miss you and your mallet, too. Don't get me all teary before we even hit the road!" Anders warned her, but hey, hugs were good so he hugged her back.

"'Sides," Zero said, "I might get to stay for the first session of summer camp, so s'not like I'm leavin' right away anyway!"

"Yeah?" Anders asked hopefully. "That'd rock. I'll be around for sure."

"Yeh, well," Zero said, tugging at a lock of her hair. "It's still in negotiation with the 'rents, but I'm hopeful."

"Got my fingers crossed for you," Anders promised. "We'd kinda like to keep you around as long as possible."
