Parking Lot by Causeway, Saturday Afternoon

Even though it was just a short trip to Arlington, Zero had stocked Dave with snacks, a cooler full of drinks, and entertainment--such as 'Teach Yourself Guitar' and 'Drumming Made Easy.' Now all she needed was the band.

Dear squall, she hoped the band showed up.

Hey, look. Chad showed up. He had Teddy eventually in tow, and lifted the hand that wasn't carrying his guitar case in a waveless wave.

Zero restrained herself from hugging Chad again. She settled for waving manically instead. "Chad! Hi!"

The manic waving was pretty damn cute. "Hey, Zero. What's up?"

Which he realized the obvious answer would be 'zomg concert,' after he asked.

Zero flailed. "ZOMG concert!"

Chad grinned a little. "We're gonna do good," he said, which was something he'd been saying to himself since he got up (which was really only a few hours ago), and said now part out of conversation, but mostly to still try to convince himself.

"We're gonna do good," Zero echoed. "Swerval, even."

"That's right," Chad said, more as a revelation than anything, as if realizing that he'd completely forgotten about that word and incorperating it into his vocabulary like he always said he wanted to. "Swerval."

"Hey, Chad." Parker smiled and pointed to the box of snacks. "Last road trip. Pizza at the convention, but load up before then."

There was the slightly quivering of Chad's lower lip; she just had to say that, didn't she? It was much easier to cope with if you didn't say it. But he nodded, took note of the snacks and said, "Thanks, Parker. Y'know what kind of convention it is? Or we jus' goin' where the wind blew us?"

"Mostly wind, an it being withing driving and Metro distance for everyone at school," she told him. "The organizer said it was some kind of science convention, so I guess the techno contingent wants us for their mixer. Shouldnt' be too bad."

"Aww," Chad said, sounding a little disappointed that one, it wasn't something that would be scandalously cool like a sex convention or something (which, if they didn't have, they should), and that the science convention that ended up being the answer didn't involve an exclamation point.

Then his head tilted a little, feeling like Teal Dear was an interesting choice of band to have at your science con, but, hey, maybe they had a really big following of cute, bespectacled female scientists...and he could dig that.
