Zero had chucked most of the mess into her closets and covered Fish's cage. On top of the dresser was an array of takeout containers from Ching Tai: rice, spring rolls, dumplings, Kung Pao shrimp and Sichuan chicken, along with other selections. Chopsticks and forks for the less brave were sitting nearby, and ginger beer was chilling in the fridge, which could also provide milkshakes if anyone wanted those instead.

Now all she needed was the rest of the band.

((Closed to the band people. Minimal OCD going up. All right, have at it. This was supposed to go up earlier, but Comcast thought it would be cute to shut off my cable for maintenance.))

"Really?" he asked, not in disbelief so much as just pure intrigue.

Agnes nodded, eyes a little distant. "Yes. They're strong and powerful and stupid, which is just the way they should be."

But so handsome, Perdita added wistfully.

So. What precisely was Agnes suggesting when she asked if he were a vampire? He grunted. "I see. Never met one because I'm pre-crappy-filler-plot."

"I'm glad you aren't one. You seemed too nice and the ones I met had terrible senses of humor."

But so handsome, Perdita repeated.

Oh shut up. Would you really want to be that stupid?

It had a wonderful diet plan.

"I'm pretty glad I'm not one, too," he had to admit. Because being a vampire would suck. Haha.

Chad was really torn if he should have maybe actually said that one outloud. Would Agnes have appriciated the joke? Or would it only make her doubt his truthfulness, as it would have been a pretty good display of bad humour.

Now what, miss "are you a vampire?"

"What do you think of your classes and teachers? Mine all seem alright."

"They're great." Yes. Emphasis. "I really love it here. Each day gets better than the next."

Well that was more enthusiasm than she'd seen him show before. "That's good. What do you do when you aren't defeating lap harpists or going to classes?"

Ooh, are you chatting him up now?

No. I'm just interested. That's all.

Liar.

Chad considered how to respond. What did he do? Played his guitar, but that sort of went without saying, obviously, since they were sitting here being in a band together. "Working, I guess."

"You have a job already?" Agnes was impressed with his industriousness. "Where do you work?"

Perdita voiced an earnest hope that it was ditch digging. Shirtless ditch digging.

Agnes turned a little pink.

Chad was still waiting for a lazy Mexican joke when he talked about his job, but was rather glad that none had shown up yet. "Empire Records?" he said, wondering if she knew the place, if she'd gotten much time to explore town a bit. "The music store?"

"Nadia I think told me about it. I don't have any money, though, so I haven't gone there yet." It did make her wonder if she should start up a bit of witchery here to be able to start bartering for things.

"Mondays and Wednesdays. And you should. It's been pretty boring so far."

Yup. Boredom was the only reason she should come by. Uh-huh. No ulterior reasons, hum, hum.

Bouncing? Not on the outside, but Perdita was doing enough bouncing on the inside for both of them.

"I'll see about stopping by on Monday since Wednesday is my mun's busiest day. But now I think it's about time to actually get to the business of this band." She looked to where the contracts were coming out.

"Sounds good," Chad said, glad that the arriving distraction of the contracts probably kept anyone from noticing what would have been more than just a tiwtch of a grin in the corner of his mouth.
