Room 220, Friday Evening

Zero had chucked most of the mess into her closets and covered Fish's cage. On top of the dresser was an array of takeout containers from Ching Tai: rice, spring rolls, dumplings, Kung Pao shrimp and Sichuan chicken, along with other selections. Chopsticks and forks for the less brave were sitting nearby, and ginger beer was chilling in the fridge, which could also provide milkshakes if anyone wanted those instead.

Now all she needed was the rest of the band.

((Closed to the band people. Minimal OCD going up. All right, have at it. This was supposed to go up earlier, but Comcast thought it would be cute to shut off my cable for maintenance.))

Agnes smiled and waved back. "Good, even if I'm going to be living behind a dictionary for the next couple of months because of Dr. Wilson."

"He talks about dee en ay and Aristotle and orkyectomies," Agnes said, stumbling a little over the unfamiliar terms. "I don't know what half of what he's talking about is."

"Okay, DNA and Aristotle I can help you with, but what the squall's an 'orkyectomy?'" Zero asked with a confused frown.

"I don't know!" Agnes said plaintively. "And he tried to explain the dee en ay, but he just used more words I didn't know."

"Don't worry. We'll look it up and find out together," Zero said in a calming voice. "DNA is...it's sort of like the coding that tells us how we're supposed to be."

"Thanks, Zero," she said with obvious relief. "I thought I was just taking a class about how medicine and magic are similar."

"So what is the class on?" Zero asked. She'd seen it in the catalogue, and that was the impression she'd gotten, too.

"So far it seems to be about some things I don't understand, like dee en ay, and what we value, which I do understand."

She poked at a bit of noodle with her fork. "I'll get it worked out. It's just a lot all at once."

Zero thought she understood the problem. "Sounds like Wilson's teachin' the class to modern normal students, which...Fandom doesn' have so much of."

Normal seemed to be a verrry relative thing here in Fandom. "It's alright. I like Mr. Aziraphale's class, and people are still very nice. I could get used to all of this."

"Acting, a class about humor and medicine also with Dr. Wilson, introductory magic, the values class, and the prophecy class and lab." She shrugged. "All things I think I'll be able to use when I go home. How about you?"

"Oh, yes," Zero said with a nod. "I'm in the acting class with you. And music, ethics, and world religions. Ethics is...bizarre, but then it was last year, too."

"Well, I'm pretty sure our teacher is evil, for one thing." Though she doesn't know about the 'killed all the Jedi' thing as best her player can remember. It might be the cape.

"Soo..." Agnes said slowly, "...you're learning ethics from someone evil?" That was like learning better business practices from C.M.O.T. Dibbler.

Agnes remembered her food at last and had a bite of something delicious. She made a happy face before saying, "Let me know if you do. I want to see the magic."

"As long as it's not me. Which it probably won't be. I tend to turn into a kitten." Zero shrugged and popped a shrimp in her mouth.

"Oh, I wanted to ask you about that." Agnes leaned forward, drawn by professional interest. "Did someone turn you into a cat and you keep popping back?"

"Technically? No. Because no one turned me into a cat on purpose that we know of. But that's basically it. I was a cat for a long while, an' then I started turning back into a girl for a bit, an' then I was a girl for a good long while before I turned cat-shaped again."

It sounded as though Zero's morphogenic field had gotten ideas about what shape she should be.

"I know a cat who was turned into a man and then back into a cat who has sort of the same problem. He pops back into man shape sometimes."
