Barnes & Noble in Alexandria, Saturday Afternoon (NFB due to distance)

As the group entered the store, they were greeted by a crowd of women, all waiting to meet Angelica Demesnes. Large tables held copies of all her books for those who hadn't brought their own, including the brand-new Crown Diamond. Zero gleefully snatched up a copy of her very own.

((Due to Parker's connection woes, there will be no travel post. Come one, come all!))

Jack was very eager to meet Ms Demesnes. He had a lot of questions he wanted to ask her. But before that he intended to take advantage of being in a bookstore, to find things that certain people might like.

With a wary glance at the crowd, who seemed a little too gleeful and hyper, he headed for the reference books, eyes lighting up at the size of both the Science and History sections.

Parker grinned and slowly wandered over to talk to him. 'Cause feet, ow. "Whatcha doin'?" she sing-songed.

"Hiding from the scary women." Jack pointed back towards the milling crowd. "And looking for a couple of books. Which is a pretty strange thing to be doing in a bookstore," he laughed. "How are the feet?"

"Owwwwchie. But at least I'm not sleep-deprived any more." Parker made a face. "And they are a little scary, but that's why they're funny. Heh. I want to watch them as much as the author when she starts talking."

"It should be very entertaining. And I hope I get as chance to talk to her. And I need to grab a copy of the Pirate-Ninja hammock sex book for Sam." Jack held up a hand. "Don't ask, please," he said quickly, before she could. "You and Izzy can lean on me while we wait. I imagine you're both pretty sore."

"Quite. Ow. Jarod's a wonderful dancer and a terrific boyfriend to have gone through with that, but ow. Twenty-two hours is just too damn long." Parker grinned, but refrained from asking the obvious question, instead innocently saying, "Not one for Cedric too?"

"Not right now, no." He shot her a quelling glance, that he knew wasn't going to work, and said, "It's a Sam thing." Which was no kind of explanation, but was as far as he was prepared to go. "I can't believe you signed up for that - did you win?"

"No," Parker pouted. "Just because I fell asleep and stopped moving was no reason to kick us out. I was still upright. Damnit."

"Awww, poor Parker." He patted her shoulder and then ducked back out of reach, just in case. "I think to qualify as dancing you have to actually be moving. Who ended up winning?"

"I have no idea, I was zonked out at Jarod's by then. Ignoring his cat." Parker made a face and swatted at his hand. "Not me, so I don't care."

"Jarod has a cat?" Jack started snickering, hard, leaning against a nearby shelf for support.

"M. Yes. Christmas present from me. She's my eyes and ears in there, when I'm not around. She reports on everything." Parker grinned. "And maybe we torment him together. When she's not complaining that I take up too much of the bed."

"A cat." Jack was still snickering. "You do know that cathouse is another word for a brothel, right?" he asked. "I've never heard of one that had an actual cat before."

Tired, Isabel wandered away from the crowd, took a seat on a comfy chair and started to read Hot Sauce and Saffron.

Jack leaned over her shoulder, reading quietly. "Okay, see, that's just a bad idea. If you've been handling chillies, you have to wash your hands before you do that," and he pointed at the page, "or it's going to hurt."

Embarrassed, Isabel slammed the book shut. "Don't do that! Also? Ouch!"

"Very ouch. And not a good idea -- unless you're into that sort of thing." Jack leaned right over the back of the chair and put his cheek on her shoulder, grinning hugely. "You're blushing, Izzy."

"Am not," she said, still a lovely shade of pink. "I'll pass. I'm definitely not into that sort of thing."

"You are, you know. Blushing, that is." He kissed her very pink cheek and stood up, walking around to perch on the arm of the chair. "And I didn't think you were."

"It's too warm in here," Isabel insisted. "All these overheated fangirls are overwhelming the AC." Grinning wickedly, she poked at Jack. "I could have a hidden kinky side."

"Of course it is." Jack grinned and tried to steal her book. "And not from me you couldn't. I have way too good a sense for things like that, and I know you too well."

Isabel held onto to it, finally sitting on it to keep it away from him. "You are a good people reader," she agreed. "And you do. You're one of the few people that really knows me. And the only one that knows everything."

Jack debated just lfting Isabel out of the chair to get the book, but stopped at her words, and smiled. "I like that," he admitted, shifting so his leg was against hers.

"Just promise me you're not going to go running off to sell my story to Weekly World News or one of the other tabloids," she teased, too tired to be emo. Smiling, Isabel shifted, leaning against him.

"Nah. You're not slimy, or tentacled, or trying to take over the world or subvert people to your twisted ways, so I doubt they'd be interested." He grinned and waved his hands in an arc, indicating a giant headline, but kept his voice low. "Gorgeous Sweet Sexy Alien Girl Doesn't Want to Take Over World - somehow I don't see it making me a heck of a lot of money."
