Barnes & Noble in Alexandria, Saturday Afternoon (NFB due to distance)

As the group entered the store, they were greeted by a crowd of women, all waiting to meet Angelica Demesnes. Large tables held copies of all her books for those who hadn't brought their own, including the brand-new Crown Diamond. Zero gleefully snatched up a copy of her very own.

((Due to Parker's connection woes, there will be no travel post. Come one, come all!))

Embarrassed, Isabel slammed the book shut. "Don't do that! Also? Ouch!"

"Very ouch. And not a good idea -- unless you're into that sort of thing." Jack leaned right over the back of the chair and put his cheek on her shoulder, grinning hugely. "You're blushing, Izzy."

"Am not," she said, still a lovely shade of pink. "I'll pass. I'm definitely not into that sort of thing."

"You are, you know. Blushing, that is." He kissed her very pink cheek and stood up, walking around to perch on the arm of the chair. "And I didn't think you were."

"It's too warm in here," Isabel insisted. "All these overheated fangirls are overwhelming the AC." Grinning wickedly, she poked at Jack. "I could have a hidden kinky side."

"Of course it is." Jack grinned and tried to steal her book. "And not from me you couldn't. I have way too good a sense for things like that, and I know you too well."

Isabel held onto to it, finally sitting on it to keep it away from him. "You are a good people reader," she agreed. "And you do. You're one of the few people that really knows me. And the only one that knows everything."

Jack debated just lfting Isabel out of the chair to get the book, but stopped at her words, and smiled. "I like that," he admitted, shifting so his leg was against hers.

"Just promise me you're not going to go running off to sell my story to Weekly World News or one of the other tabloids," she teased, too tired to be emo. Smiling, Isabel shifted, leaning against him.

"Nah. You're not slimy, or tentacled, or trying to take over the world or subvert people to your twisted ways, so I doubt they'd be interested." He grinned and waved his hands in an arc, indicating a giant headline, but kept his voice low. "Gorgeous Sweet Sexy Alien Girl Doesn't Want to Take Over World - somehow I don't see it making me a heck of a lot of money."

"I'm just boring. What can I say?" she asked. "You're extremely cheerful. What gives?"

"You're not boring. You're all those things I said, and far more besides." He snugged an arm around her shouders and hugged her against his side. "And I'm in a good mood because all is right with my world. I'm here with you, last night I danced with two of my favourite people, woke up curled up around one of them and am planning to visit the other one tonight, the missing time mystery is solved -- add it all together and you get Instant Happy Jack!"

"I like Happy Jack," Isabel grinned, sliding an arm around his waist. "I hope he stays around for a while."

"I think you can count on that." He tickled his fingers up Isabel's side. "As long as you keep cuddling me," he said mock-seriously. "Otherwise Happy Jack might disappear forever."

"Horrors!" she exclaimed, trying to wiggle away. "We can't have that. So it looks like I'll have to keep up with the cuddles. It's such a hardship," Isabel sighed.

"I'm a terrible burden on you, I know. But you bear it with unfailing good humour." He tightend his arm so she couldn't escape. "You're very noble."

"I'm trying to build up good karma," Isabel explained. "Fortunately you have charm and good looks. You could have been cranky and gnome like."

"Gnome like? You think I could have been gnome like?" he asked, voice outraged, but his eyes were sparkling and he scooped her up and stole her seat, ending with her on his lap. "In no universe, in no time, anywhere or anywhen, is Jack Harkness gnome like," he grumbled. "The idea's ridiculous."

Isabel squealed as Jack scooped her up, before settling comfortably on his lap and resting her head on his shoulder. "I don't know. Gnomes are sort of cute in an odd scrunched up way."

"You're not helping, you know," he laughed, leaning back into the chair, arms loose around Isabel's waist. "Are you saying I'm only cute in an odd scrunched up way?"

"No, you're devastatingly handsome and charming. I'm just saying that gnomes have their own particular sort of charm." Content, Isabel didn't plan on moving for a while.

"That's okay then." It suddenly occurred to him that the book Izzy had been sitting on was now the book that he was sitting on, so shifted enough to grab it. "Want me to read you a story?"

"What? Oh god..." Shaking her head, Isabel didn't even try to grab for the book. "Sure Jack, tell me a story."

Laughing, he started to read out loud, ocasionally snickering, and at one point he stared at the book and said, "Remind me never to eat at this restaurant."

Eventually Isabel stopped blushing and started laughing.
