Zero waits on the front steps of the school for Parker. They really need to get a move on if they're going to beat traffic on the mainland and pick up the puppy on time.
(ooc: I'll be offline in a bit, so Parker is free to god-mode Zero as necessary.)
Parker checks the rear-view mirror, and isn't thrilled with what she sees. "Ah. Sorry I asked. Pet The Puppy."
She shakes her head. "Faith got a puppy from Principal Connor this morning. I couldn't believe it. Bad-ass Beatdown Girl likes puppies as much as the next teen-age girl. Who'd have thought it?"
"Don't even think about it." Parker is cruising toward the causeway now, shades in place, the sun low in the sky. "They're very cute, but they're responsibility, too. I've got enough problems."
"I'd probably wonder if it would suddenly turn into Julian on me, around here." Parker's mouth quirks. "Still. Maybe." She's quiet for a few miles, then admits, "I always liked...."
"Bunnies," Parker says. "I've always liked bunnies. Okay?" She glares into the rear-view mirror. "Tell anyone and I kill you with a ratchet-head screwdriver."
Parker relaxes a bit as they head for home. "Thanks. I appreciate it." She shrugs. "They used to have rabbits for experiments at my father's workplace-- nothing horrible, or cruel, but to study animal behavior. They had a set of six, three twins, and if you split them up, they always found each other, once you turned them loose together again." She's smiling now, remembering.
"Jarod used to--" She stops speaking suddenly, and hits the turn signal.
"My dad's in money. And think tanks. Smartest solution gets the most dollars. Sometimes that means doing lame psych experiments to see what gets the best results." Parker pushes her sunglasses up.
"Well, if I knew how to drive you there, we could always roadtrip to him...."
He's in Massachusetts. It's too grindin' far. That's what started all this; he couldn' come for homecomin' an' he told me when I was sick an' cranky an' it all just went to squallin' hell.
"Crap. Sorry. It's been two weeks, though, maybe he's... maybe he's missing you, now." Parker knows she sucks at the comfort thing. But Zero sounds so miserable, she has to try.
"Jarod." She takes a breath. "Jarod was-- is, one of my old friends from Blue Cove." What had she been talking about, when his name slipped out? Something harmless, like... "Oh, right. He was the one who showed me the bunnies. I wasn't supposed to be in there."
Parker smiles again, bright and soft, but gone very quickly. "Yes. But that's Jarod for you."
They're nearing the end of the causeway, and Fandom High is visible on top of the island, the school flag flying, second tallest thing on the island next to the church steeple.
