Jail, Friday, Evening

"One phone call," the guard reminded Zero as he handed her the phone. Who to call? Rat? Her parents? Someone who wouldn't lecture her? Hmm. After a moment, Zero made her decision and started dialing. As the phone started ringing, the guard asked her, "Were you really stalking Tom Cruise, kid?"

"Don' be silly," Zero told him. "It was a film school project that got slightly out of control."

"Film students," muttered the guard. "Of course."

"It is L.A.," Parker agreed, then gaped at Allison, who'd snagged the phone out of her fingers.

"Who is this?" she asked pre-emptorily. "Really. Which one of Parker's friends are you?"

"I'm Zero," Zero said, sounding highly affronted. "And I only get the one bloody phone call so who the squall are you? Wait, is this Allison? I've heard all about you," Zero said, her voice dropping on that last.

Allison stared at the phone, then the television, where Zero was abusing the TV film crew, and Parker managed to wrestle the phone away from her as she stuttered, "Zero Hopeless-Savage calls you for bail money?!"

"You are so far beyond rude I don't want to know what planet you're from," Parker told her, getting back on the phone. "Hey. I'm gonna get online to get your bail posted, L.A. County Jail, right? You didn't run into whatserhface, that redheaded drunk actress yet, did you? If you do, will you slap her for me? She's making the rest of us heiresses look bad."

"If I see her I'll do my best to get assault added to the charges," Zero promised. "An' that's the place, yup. I'll call you when I'm out."

Allison was still spluttering enough that Parker lowered her voice to say, "And if you help me deal with my problem sometime before next term? You can forget about ever having to pay me back."

"I'll see what I can do," Zero promised, wiggling her fingers at her slightly confused guard. "When'm I comin' over there, anyways, did we ever figure that out? New Year's-ish, yeh?"

"Ish," Parker agreed. "Nourhane will be in Tunisia, Stella will be home... and other people will be dealt with." Parker sent Allison's back a glare just as she stomped back to her room. "Much to tell you and catch up on. But not while you're waiting for your legal counsel."

"Ish is good. I'm sure he'll be here soon," Zero told her, casting a glance over Guard Guy's shoulder toward the door.

Parker had flipped open her laptop and transferred funds, then frowned, adding on another fifty dollars. "Make them give you the change from this. Get a decent breakfast. And what *did* you do that had Tom Cruise calling the cops on you, finally, if you didn't trespass?"

"I was just standing there," Zero said, "innocently minding my own business, with my little sign and my camera, when suddenly a crazed fading star was yelling at me and these big cops were dragging me to the car." It was possible that Zero's version of events and Mr. Cruise's were equally inaccurate. The guard rolled his eyes at her. "Really. You're the best, Parker."

Parker, having been arrested twice with Zero and thrown out of more places with her than Parker had bothered to keep track of, snorted. "I'll bet. I'll record all the bits from Entertainment Tonight and the Beeb Feed so you'll have copies. And what did the little sign saaaay, Zero?"

"'Free Katie, She Used to Have Taste,'" Zero said proudly.

Parker fell off the couch laughing. When she was done hiccuping with glee, she said, "Worth every penny. Keep the bail money, seriously. Oooo, hey! The guys from Spooky Things just commented on you being cool on E! They think you were framed!"

Zero flailed so comprehensively that the guard leaned back in his chair. The first sound that came out of her mouth was the verbal equivalent of a keyboardsmash, and then she said, "DID YOU GET IT ON DVR? I knew we were right to campaign for him!"

"Yes! I got it! And you were so so right!" Parker could barely breathe for giggling. "I'll MegaUpload it to you as soon as I'm sure I got everything. You'll be able to watch it over your French toast!"

"Best. Friend. Ever," Zero declared. "Mmm French toast." Then she glanced at her guard and said, "Ugh, Parker, nice Officer Parkman is tapping his watch. I think I have to go now."

"'kay. Bye Officer Parkman!" Parker calls. "Byeeee, Zero. Way to go! And talk to you soon! Free Catie!!"

"Bye! Hey, Parker says bye," Zero told Nice Officer Parkman.

"Bye, Parker," Nice Officer Parkman said, clearly amused. "C'mon, kid. Back to the cell while we wait for your bail to clear."
