Room 220, Thursday Afternoon (after classes)

After some handwavey phone calls to her friends, Zero donned her elf costume once more, propped the door open, and prepared to play--not Santa. Gift-Giving Elf Zerbie. That was the ticket.

There was a pile of presents on one of the room's twin beds, and a plate of freshly-mailed cookies from Zero's dad next to a rosemary bush hung with colorful safety pins on the desk. The refrigerator was dispensing egg nog milkshakes and Fish was warbling Christmas carols in Cantonese. Come on in!

Pippi grinned at the squeak.

"I thought you'd like that."

Zero squeezed her new toy and said, "Yes, I love it, thank you!"

"You're welcome! D'you want a cookie? Or a nog-shake?"

"Oooh, nog shake sounds deeeliteful!"

Zero opened her fridge, frowned at it, closed it, and opened it again. "That's more like it," she said as she took a fresh nog-shake off the top shelf and offered it to Pippi. "They're really good. I'm pretty sure they're not spiked." Kind of sure, anyway.

If it wasn't, it would be shortly.

"Thanks." Pippi said taking the shake. "So what are you going to do for the break?"

Zero held up one finger to pause as she swallowed the mouthful of cookie she'd taken after handing Pippi her shake. "Oh, I'm goin' home. Seems like forever since I saw my family. You?"

"I'm gonna stick around here, but I'm going to sail around with Pip, Walter, and Nadia for a few days next week." She said before taking a sip of the shake.

Then made a squeely noise and took a longer sip.

"Oooh, sailing." Zero grinned at the squeely noise. "I told you it was good!"

"Hmmmmm mmmmm!" Pippi agreed.

"Yeah, I got some old charts from the library of the surrounding waters so we're going on a three hour day cruise!"

"Well, have fun! All I know about around here's the Isle of Ikea."

"Yeah, I think we're going to avoid that place."

"Prolly for the best. I got thrown out once. Parker an' I had a pillow fight."

Wow that sounded like so much more fun then "Nadia was kidnapped by people who wanted to kill one of our teachers".

But the egg nog shake was to delicious to let that thought spoil her mood.

"Exploring the Isle of Ikea is expensive anyway." she grinned.

Zero missed the kidnapping. "But the furniture is so reasonably priced! Which is probably why it's dangerous."
