As the group entered the store, they were greeted by a crowd of women, all waiting to meet Angelica Demesnes. Large tables held copies of all her books for those who hadn't brought their own, including the brand-new Crown Diamond. Zero gleefully snatched up a copy of her very own.

Parker has to approach her with copies of Storms of Silver and Crown Diamond, plus extras for Janet and Daniel. "Hi, Ms. Demesnes. Would you mind signing extra copies?"

"Oh, not at all," Angelica tittered tipsily. "Who should I make these out to, darling girl?"

Parker restrained a snicker, and looked innocent. "One for Parker-- that's me. One for Janet. And one for the Idiot Boy-- that's the Pearl Blade. With 'this could be you' in the dedication, please?"

"Of course, darling," Angelica said, already scrawling in loopy, bordering on illegible handwriting in the books. "Men. Some of them are just worthless, aren't they?" It's possible she made the dedications out to 'Idiom Boy,' but it's close enough, right?

"Oh, definitely. Say." Parker's look couldn't get more innocent if you drew it on with a marker. "Where'd you get the idea for the, you know? Ahem. Death scene, in that book? For Running Wolf?"

"Oh, you know how it is when you're a writer, darling. Sometimes inspiration just strikes. And I don't care what those nasty fangirls on the internet say, it certainly had nothing to do with my ex-husband serving me with divorce papers."

Parker's eyes lit up with delight. "Really? How could they be so mean. I mean, of course you're still in touch with your ex. You didn't actually cut off his head or tell someone to infect him with a social disease."

"Of course not," Angelica agreed. "They're just being silly."

Parker snickered. "So, the polar bear. What's that about? And the bit with the bisexual lord. That was cool by the way. Totally unexpected."

"Well, darling, of course you remember the polar bear. It's been around since the first book. One of the pirate's pets, you know." Never mind that the poor thing has to live in the Caribbean and must be getting up there in polar bear age. "And I just want to assure you that has nothing to do with my engagement to the founder and president of the Angelica Demesnes Appreciation Society."

Parker's eyes went round. "Of course not." Damn, why didn't she have a video recorder. "So, that bit in the surf, with the... that's pure fiction. Right?"

"Awesome." Parker gave her a thumb's up. "Keep up the good work, Ms. Demesnes. I don't suppose you can give me just a teeny, tiny clue what the next one's about? Or when it'll be out?"

Angelica smiled. "I'm working on it at the moment, and my publisher would rather I didn't share details with the public, darling, you understand. But...let's just say it has something in common with Crown Diamond and leave it at that, won't we?"
